The Rams came back from a 13-0 deficit to beat the Saints on the road. The Patriots in the meantime gave up a 14-0 lead while giving up 31 points in the 2nd half. This Super Bowl could easily feature two different teams and some could argue that the losers, the Saints and Chiefs should host their own consolation game due to some of the controversial calls that happened.
That being said, the Saints dug their own grave when Brees threw an interception after winning the coin toss in overtime. And Chiefs' Dee Ford lining up offsides was a boneheaded move, who happened to repeat the same mistake in last week pro bowl.
This is now the Patriots ninth Super Bowl. They played the LA Rams in their first Super Bowl appearance back in 2002. The matchup features two of the best coaches in the NFL in Bill Belicheck and Sean McVay. Belicheck will either become the oldest coach ever to win the Bowl while McVay would become the youngest to win if the Rams prevail.
While the Patriots have no glaring weaknesses other than pass catching running backs who have burned them all season. That being said, it may be hard for the Rams to exploit that weakness if Todd Gurley is still banged up who only had 5 carries in last week's matchup. C.J. Anderson has filled in admirably along with the Rams stellar offensive line.
That being said, the Rams potentially have the best opportunity to give the Patriots problems if they can actually generate a pass rush which on paper is much better than the Patriots. Their secondary featuring Talib and Peters who did a good job slowing down Michael Thomas last week.
The Rams theoretically could do better this week against the Patriots, who on paper are not as daunting as the Saints defense. The Rams defensive rush and Gurley's health are the two biggest x factors entering this super bowl. That being said, the Patriots could very well come out on top due their experience and quarterback who has gotten it done before in the clutch.
