NFL Conference Championship Preview 2020

Rodgers only threw for 104 yards
in 37-8 loss earlier this season

Tennessee Titans @ Kansas City Chiefs (-7) - While the Titans are streaking, they barely came away with a win in their last matchup against the Chiefs which included a controversial runback for a touchdown and a blocked field goal in a 1 point upset victory.  It also coincided with Mahomes first game off his injury where he had a lot of rust.

Mahomes and the Chiefs appeared to have found another gear recently.  After falling behind 24-0 in the first quarter against the Texans, Mahomes threw for five touchdowns- Doug Williams was the last quarterback to that in Super Bowll 22 . The Chiefs defense also only allowed only one touchdown for the rest of the game.  The Titans do have a formula for victory which is running Derrick Henry in order to keep the Chiefs off the field.  But the Chiefs can certainly use the formula used by the Texans and Saints to slow the Titans.

Green Bay Packers @ San Francisco 49ers (-7.5) - Green Bay may have the best three offensive players in this game including Aaron Rodgers, Aaron Jones, and Davante Adamas. Still, it is hard to ignore the fact that the Packers only scored 8 points consisting of 104 passing yards by Aarobn Rodgers and 81 yards combined between Aaron Jones and Davante Adams.  The 49ers defense pass rush was too much for the Vikings last week and look to apply a similar strategy against the Packers.

2020 Divisional Playoff Round Picks

Patrick Mahomes is the only QB who played
in the Divisional round last season
who play again this year

Minnesota Vikings @ San Francisco 49ers (-7) - Kirk Cousins did get his first playoff win against the Saints.  Still, I think his competency  may be a bit overstated in a game where Drew Brees played terribly and a Will Lutz missed a field goal which would have given the Saints the win in regulation.   Adam Thielen did play well catching seven catches off of nine targets but injured his ankle in practice and may not be 100%.  Kyle Shanahan could also come up with an effective game plan against Cousins, who he coached in Washington.  Jimmy Garoppolo could play because he has effective wide receivers including Deebo Samuels and Emanuel Sanders.  The Vikings may struggle to contain George Kittle.  Plus Raheem Mostert and Matt Breida has been very effective running the ball lately.

Tennessee Titans @ Baltimore Ravens (-9.5) - The Titans did pull off an upset win but their offense struggled with Tannehill throwing for only 77 yards and zero points offensively in the 2nd half.  AJ Brown has been slowed down against top corners including the Saints and the Patriots; look for Marlon Humphries to put the clamps down.  Lamar Jackson looks to continue his historic play in what should be relatively good weather in Baltimore.  While running back Mark Ingram could be hampered with a calf injury, Gus Edwards and Justice Hill could fill in his absence

Houston Texans @ Kansas City Chiefs (-9.5) - The Texans did pull off an nice comeback win against the Bills but can't afford to dig themselves into a big hole.  Patrick Mahomes should be able to find Hil and Kelce often.  The Chiefs defense has played much better lately especially at home.  DeShaun Watson could eep it close if Kendall Fuller is back at 100% but it may be unlikely given that Fuller missed last week.

Seattle Seahawks (+4.5) @ Green Bay Packers - Seattle has a chance to pull off an upset at Lambeau field.  Russell Wilson is excellent in one score games meaning he could play well under pressure in this playoff matchup.  Seattle has better wide receivers in Tyler Lockett and DK Metcalf.  Aaron Rodgers also hasn't been as effective this season partially due to him getting older.  Rodgers needs to defer more to Aaron Jones, who lead the team with 16 touchdowns, but sometimes the Packers don't use Jones effectively in the redzone.

2020 NFL Wild Card Picks

JJ Watt returns after a 10 week absence

Buffalo Bills @ Houston Texans (-2.5) - While one could argue that the Bills are a better team, the Texans still have DeShaun Watson and DeAndre Hopkins.  Buffalo Bills only averages around 14 points per game against playoff teams this season.   Carlos Hyde could run well against the Bills defense.

Tennessee Titans (+4.5) @ New England Patriots - The key for the Patriots will be if they can slow down Derrick Henry. If New England loses, this could possibly be the last game for Tom Brady in New England.  Stephon Gilmore could slow down AJ Brown who didn't have a great receiving game against the spread.  The snowy weather could mean that the Patriots rely more upon Sony Michel.  Ryan Tannehill could do enough to keep it close but I think Bill Belichick gives the Patriots the edge in the coaching department.

Minnesota Vikings @ New Orleans Saints (-7.5) - It could be tough for Cousins to get it going in this one especially since Adam Thielen hasn't been 100 percent and Dalvin Cook is also banged up.  Drew Brees and the Saints look to avenge the Minneapolis Miracle.

Seattle Seahawks (-1.5) @ Philadelphia Eagles- Seattle only beat the Philadelphia 17-9 earlier this season.  The Eagles are playing better lately without their top targets.  Then again, one would expect them to look much better playing NFC East opponents in their last four games.  While Seattle is without Chris Carson, they looked like they were hitting their stride with Marshawn Lynch in their lineup.
